Genuinely, undoubtedly. This back-up (really and truly mean the aforementioned thing, but the alliteration makes for emphasis) dates from the eighteenth century. The OED holds it is a North American children’s locution, but about all of its citations, alignment from Henry Fielding (1742) to the present, are from developed books.
