의미: under under는 전치사가 주기능이지만 부사로서도 쓰인다. under는 above와 below의 관계와 같이 over와 역의 관계를 나타낸다. The kitchen is under the bedroom. (주방은 침실 바로 밑에 있다.) 같이 위의 것과 접촉하지 않은 것도, hold a book under one’s arm (겨드랑이에 책을 끼다)과 같이 접촉되어 있는 것도 나타낸다.
